Share What You Grow

Bench Shows are an EHS tradition dating back to the early 1900s. The Edmonton Horticultural Society’s most recent Bench Shows, presented in partnership with Fort Edmonton Park in 2009, 2010 and 2011, were an exciting way to celebrate the end of the growing season and your gardening successes.

In August of 2013 we will present a new twist on the Bench Show and we are calling it Share What You Grow.

• no judging
• no prizes

Just a chance to bring in your flowers and produce to show the wide range of plants that can be grown in Edmonton, to exchange information with fellow gardeners and to share with Meals on Wheels. The categories are as follows:

• Apples
• Other fruits
• Tomatoes (3 different varieties)
• Gourd ( includes squash, melon, pumpkin, even zucchini and purely ornamental gourds)
• Beans (fresh or dried)
• Vegetables in non-traditional colours. This may be such things as purple carrots, yellow beets or blue potatoes
• Root vegetable assortment (3 different kinds)
• Vegetables or fruits having weird or unusual shapes
• Warm zone fruits/vegetables (watermelon, artichokes, peppers, etc)
• Flower, single stem of your choice
• Mixed bouquet (3 or more varieties of flowers)
• Bouquet (single variety, at least three stems)

Bring your flowers and produce clean and ready to display with the named variety so they can be labelled. There will be no official judging though we may have a few people’s choice awards in fun categories. The produce will be donated to Meals on Wheels and the flowers to a senior’s lodge.

Come on out on August 26 and join in the fun. There will also be three short gardening presentations and a Photography Competition.
