The Queen Mary Park Community League Speaker Evening

The Queen Mary Park Community League is hosting a Speaker Evening in support of the Queen Community Garden.

Jennifer Cockrall-King, author of Food and the City: Urban Agriculture and the New Food Revolution, will show slides from her book and talk about how urban agriculture, including community gardens, is part of an alternative food system developing in cities around the globe. Through her travels researching and writing her book, Jennifer interviewed the people in Paris, London, Vancouver, Toronto, Chicago, Detroit, Milwaukee, Calgary, Edmonton, and Havana, who were shortening their food chains, growing food within their city limits, and taking their "food security" into their own hands. Jennifer is a well-known Edmonton food writer and supporter of the local food movement.

Everyone welcome. Free admission; donations in support the Queen Community Garden gratefully accepted. Refreshments will be served. Copies of Food and the City will be available for purchase.
